Ile? Ktoś mógłby pomyśleć, że niewiele. Ja mam w tym semestrze pięć przedmiotów, po 1,5 godziny w tygodniu każdy (wiosną będę miał mniej). Żyć nie umierać?
Sęk w tym, że same spotkania ze student(k)ami to jedynie mała część potrzebnego czasu pracy. Zobaczmy to na przykładzie typowej formuły zajęć w naukach społecznych i humanistycznych.
Przed każdymi zajęciami należy co najmniej odświeżyć sobie lekturę (czyli przynajmniej kilkanaście stron tekstu naukowego, gęstego i wymagającego pewnej uwagi). Oprócz tego dobrze byłoby mieć pomysł na przebieg danego spotkania: co będziemy robić i w jakiej kolejności. Czasami trzeba też przyszykować trochę slajdów, czasami wymyślić zadania do pracy w grupach, czasami zrobić sobie notatki. Niech będzie, że to wszystko zajmuje kolejne 1,5 godziny. A więc razem już 3 godziny na przedmiot.
Dalej: studenci i studentki mają różne sprawy i problemy, które zgłaszają ustnie lub mailowo. W tym semestrze w moich grupach znajduje się np. osoba z indywidualną organizacją studiów, kilka osób z zagranicy przyjeżdżających po terminie z racji problemów z wizą czy też osoba z Erasmusa pytająca o formalne aspekty jednego z kursów. Każdą taką sprawę trzeba przemyśleć i załatwić osobno. Do tego regularnie wysyłam wiadomości dotyczące lektur na zajęcia, w razie potrzeby informuję o zmianach dyżurów, przeglądam zespoły w MS Teams i tak dalej. Prowadzący nierzadko robią też zdjęcia lub skany lektur i udostępniają je mailowo; czasem wymaga to wizyty w bibliotece. Jeżeli tygodniowa średnia z tego wszystkiego to 45 minut, łączny czas poświęcony na jeden przedmiot wyniesie już 3 godziny i 45 minut.
Trzeba też pobrać z portierni klucze przed każdymi zajęciami, niekiedy przygotować rzutnik, po zajęciach rzucić okiem na salę, wytrzeć tablicę, sprawdzić okna, oddać klucze. Drobiazgi, ale to kolejne 15 minut. Łącznie już 4 godziny w tygodniu na każdy przedmiot.
A nie zaczęliśmy jeszcze mówić o zaliczeniach. Wiele tutaj zależy od formy, ale jeśli chcemy to zrobić w miarę porządnie, w trakcie semestru i na koniec wypadałoby przeznaczyć – powiedzmy – 1,5 godziny na każdą osobę w grupie. Wliczam w to nie tylko prace pisemne lub zaliczenia ustne, lecz także dodatkowy czas dla studentek i studentów przekraczających limit nieobecności, tudzież tworzenie zestawień obejmujących wszystkie składniki wszystkich ocen. Zakładając, że średnia grupa liczy piętnaście osób, otrzymujemy kolejne 1,5 godziny tygodniowo. Razem już 5,5 godziny.
Etat liczy 40 godzin. Wychodzi na to, że chcąc jak najlepiej poprowadzić pięć kursów akademickich w tygodniu, powinienem na nie poświęcić niemal 70% etatu. Przeciętnie w semestrze wypadają cztery kursy, ale to nadal ponad 50% etatu. Doliczmy jeszcze różne zadania administracyjne i wyjdzie na to, że przy obecnym obciążeniu dydaktycznym po prostu nie da się prowadzić zajęć optymalnie, jeśli chcemy mieć jeszcze czas na swoje badania (i nie pracować ponad miarę).
Oczywiście zajęcia zajęciom nierówne. Na przykład jeśli nie wymyślamy danego kursu od zera, lecz przejmujemy po kimś innym, to jest łatwiej (ale i wtedy warto byłoby cały program dobrze przemyśleć, dostosować do własnych preferencji i możliwości). Łatwiej jest także, gdy prowadzimy te same zajęcia od lat i jedynie je modyfikujemy. Równocześnie jednak moje wyliczenia obejmują czysty czas pracy – kiedy piszę np. „1,5 godziny tygodniowo na zaliczenia”, nie uwzględniam w tym przerw na pogawędkę z kolegą albo kawę z koleżanką. Raczej niewiele jest zawodów, w których 40-godzinny etat oznacza 40 godzin czystej pracy, więc od pracowników i pracownic naukowych też niekoniecznie należy tego oczekiwać.
Podane tu liczby są przybliżone; nie będę kruszył kopii o to, czy gdzieś powinno być 45 minut, czy raczej 38, albo może 49. Niemniej efekt tego wszystkiego jest taki, że trudno poświęcać na zajęcia tyle czasu, by osiągnąć w pełni satysfakcjonujące rezultaty. Chyba najprościej oszczędzić czas na formule zaliczenia, czyli np. nie zadawać student(k)om dłuższych prac pisemnych. Trochę mi jednak tego szkoda, bo pisanie jest cenną umiejętnością i chętnie bym pomógł ludziom ją poćwiczyć.
Dlatego dydaktyki na uczelniach powinno być po prostu mniej. I to akurat uczelnie mogą zorganizować w znacznej mierze samodzielnie, bez udziału ministerstwa nauki – zmieniając programy studiów oraz inne wewnętrzne zapisy. Chciałbym, aby to się stało, bo lubię uczyć, po spotkaniach ze student(k)ami niejednokrotnie jestem w dobrym nastroju (rzecz jasna zdarzają się też zajęcia trudniejsze i bardziej męczące) i dobrze by było móc im poświęcić dokładnie tyle uwagi, na ile zasługują.
